Levitate
This painting features a golden poppy floating above the rolling hills of Helen Putnam Regional Park. It was inspired in part by a quote from Georgia O’Keefe describing her floral paintings:
“I decided that if I could paint that flower in a huge scale, you could not ignore its beauty.”
I love our regional parks! They are magical outdoor sanctuaries in the midst of our urban landscape. Far more than just a place to exercise, nature and the outdoors has always been a source of inspiration, wisdom, and insight. Throughout history, poets, philosophers, and artists have looked to the natural world to find metaphors that resonate deeply with our lives. These metaphors can offer profound lessons about life, growth, resilience, and interdependence. By observing and experiencing nature, we can learn things that can help us to navigate life's challenges, celebrate its beauty, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around us. The giant floating poppy is a reminder to set aside whatever might be weighing us down and enjoy the beauty of the moment as we experience nature in our parks.
