Graceful Extensibility
This composition is a nine panel assemblage (enneaptych) of weathered, monochromatic lotus leaves rendered on colored canvases. Although they all share the common attribute of being lotus leaves, no two are alike. Likewise, although some of the colored backgrounds are similar, no two are identical. Yet, despite their differences, these pieces unite harmoniously to produce a composition that is greater than the sum of its parts.
This piece was created to celebrate the diversity of the human race. Other than sharing the common attribute of being human beings, we come in different shapes, sizes, colors and backgrounds. There is a tendency in our society to try and group together similar characteristics or colors, but this piece is deliberately arranged not to segregate, but to celebrate the unique of each individual.
