Cup of Gold
Poppies are my muse; they are a striking combination of beauty and tenacity. They thrive in poor soil, they are drought-tolerant and are among the first wildflowers to appear after wildfires. The California Poppy (Eschscholtzia californica) grows wild throughout California, and has been our state flower since 1903.
"Cup of Gold" (copa de oro) is one of several popular names for this striking flower. Other designations include Golden poppy, California sunlight, Flame flower, and Dedal de oro (thimble of gold).
